Connie Falk enjoys painting in oils and focuses most of her efforts on the local landscape. Painting in plein air is a particular passion, as it combines sharing adventures with good friends and carefully observing the effects of changing seasons on light, color and form. She has hiked extensively in the northern foothills of the Sandia Mountains and has painted many scenes from her hikes. Recently she has begun painting with cold wax and oils with a knife, which allows her to create nuanced textures and scumbling effects and capture fleeting light. In 2022, Connie was included in Southwest Art Magazine’s, “10 NM Painters to Watch.” Since 2024 Connie has rented or sold paintings to two movies (“A Place in Hell” and “Miss You, Love You”) and one television show, “The Better Sister,” the latter now airing on Amazon Prime. Connie has called New Mexico home since 1988 when she began her academic career in agricultural economics at New Mexico State University. While on the faculty, she began taking art classes at NMSU in 2004, and continued taking classes until 2013 when she retired as a full professor. She is a regular participant in the Placitas Studio Tour on Mother’s Day weekend and was recently juried into the North Valley Studio Tour, which takes place every September in the Los Ranchos/Albuquerque area.
