Sara McKenzie's work is shaped by layered geographies and a lifelong openness to contradiction. After forty years in biotechnology, she turned fully to abstract painting. Based in Santa Fe since 2014, her work has appeared in exhibitions across the United States and Europe since her debut in 2023.
Painting, for Sara, is discovery rather than depiction — an inquiry shaped by a life between science and art. She approaches each canvas as an experimental field: layering, erasing, revising. Each painting unfolds as an unrepeatable event. Mastery is not arrival but sustained curiosity.
