The New Mexico Artist Directory (NMAD) began with a simple question, sparking discussions among our circle of working artist friends over several months.
The loosely framed question was this: How can artists be more "seen" and connected with the world beyond their studios in our rapidly changing times? We recognized that virtual marketing is essential for keeping New Mexico’s art and artists in the minds of potential collectors. In our view, active online presence is not only vital for the future but crucial for surviving in the present.
These discussions led to the creation of the New Mexico Artist Directory in late 2015. Our goal was, and continues to be, to build an affordable online directory for artists across New Mexico, linking them directly with visitors interested in exploring the rich diversity of art and artists throughout the state.
Building on this success, in 2017, we launched the New Mexico Fiber Arts Directory (www.newmexicofiberartsdirectory.com), further expanding our mission to showcase New Mexico artists. Together, these directories highlight artists, venues, and events from all genres, organized by region and community.
Our Marketing Approach
We promote artists, venues, and events—both virtual and in-person—through individual posts on our News and Facebook platforms. We also actively "Like" and share our members' posts within our own networks, further amplifying their reach.
Additionally, we create posts featuring groups of artists working in various mediums, linking directly to each artist’s website. This strategy significantly broadens the exposure for our member artists.

Each artist listing includes images, descriptive text, and contact links that connect viewers to the artist’s own website or other online resources. This can showcase not only their work but also their studios, galleries, exhibiting venues, and even classes or workshops.
Continued Growth and Partnerships
Since its humble beginnings, the NMAD website has undergone several redesigns, evolving to accommodate our expanding community. We now feature workshops, exhibitions, studio tours, and galleries representing our members. We collaborate with organizations like New Mexico True and regularly feature artists on a dedicated Facebook page, linking them with broader online networks.
Additionally, we offer complimentary listings for Studio Tours that take place throughout the year and provide listings for galleries, non-profits, and art-related services.
Our members have found NMAD to be a valuable tool in their marketing efforts. Every year, we experience continued growth, and as we mature, we will expand our reach even further.
