Many of my quilts are composed of tiny scraps sewn together into pieces that become parts of my quilts. Following patterns with intricate planned intersections and making multiple blocks the same
doesn’t appeal to me. I refer to my methods as “seat of the pants” quilting.

Throughout the years I have made observations and extensive studies about things which repeatedly capture my attention and provide inspiration. ‘Nature!' - Trees, Water, Frost, Rain, Light, Wind and Rock in their infinite variety of forms and manifestations whether great or small, at times visible, often hidden, silent or audible, underground or disguised, but always in transition. Things we see in part or not at all which exert tremendous far reaching effects on our planet.

Katharine Kreisher lives between Truth or Consequences and Oneonta, NY, where she is Professor of Art, Department of Art and Art History. Her Resumé is long, varied and filled with installations such as those pictured here. She includes family heirloom textiles, some are reworked in other installations. Here is her quote from the HEATE'S DREAM installation: "Hekate’s Dream” is part of my on-going series of “Dream” installations, journeys into unconscious narratives, reworkings of memory and myth. This colorfully crocheted and knit installation is built from funnel-like shapes referencing desert plant forms and flowers. To me it is as if the archaic domestic goddess of ancient Greece, Hekate, dreamed of a desert landscape where

come and go. Working with yarn and thread and cloth to “find” the imagery, I imagined myself at all ages in half-remembered rooms conversing with my mother and aunts and grandmothers
while quilts and sweaters and socks emerged under our fingertips.

After spinning my first skein of yarn, I was hooked. After weaving my first basket, I was hooked. I find it rewarding and even exciting to create something from nothing, especially an item that's functional and can last for generations.

Following a career in publishing, John has been pursuing his passion for art. Although his primary interest is portraits — in a variety of media from watercolor and acrylic to pen and ink and colored pencil — he also explores subjects ranging from birds and wildlife to buildings and landscapes.
Artist’s Statement: “… I have been doing art for over forty years. I originally worked as an abstract landscape painter before transitioning to creating mixed media shrines and assemblages. I’m fortunate to have had residencies at the Vermont art Center and the Wurlitzer Foundation in Taos. I primarily work with metal, hardware and iconic images, using objects from scrapyards, thrift stores, and the desert - “Trashformation”- beauty from trash! Themes range from the sacred to the humorous, often with a sense of mystery. I am especially inspired by the art of Mexico and Outsider artists. I work intuitively and learn by experimenting, informed by the process of creating each piece."
Masaoka has exhibited in Carmel, CA, Vermont, and Asheville, NC as well as Truth or Consequences, NM.

Monroe works with mainly found
materials in an eclectic variety of categories, primarily but not exclusively fabric hangings, totem figures, assemblages, collages and altered books. She explains, “My hunting skills have been honed to a fine art while pawing through second-hand clothing, fabrics, beads, yarns, rusted metal, and fanciful objects found at local thrift stores, yard sales and on many rambles on desert trails. This kind of reuse and upcycling gives me fits of pleasure and excitement.” |

New work begins free of series then evolves into series work, large and small.

During our pandemic I am working on a series that takes me far away from thinking about it.
