I am a novelist - working in fantasy - and an artist - working with mythological and symbolic themes both eastern and western. I love color as you can see and use mostly wonderful creamy Williamsburg oil paints in my work.

My work reflects who I am.
I care about attention to detail and the nostalgic.
I adore texture and pattern, weathered metal/brick, antique buttons and wax seals.
I am especially drawn to the subjects of architecture, vintage automobiles and fish.
Most importantly, I am interested in integrating these elements, subjects and surface
into my work using various media and techniques.

"I have always primarily worked with oil on canvas; my paintings reflecting my love of Native cultures and celebrations. After years of snowbirding, my husband and I relocated to New Mexico from Connecticut. Now my colors are becoming more vibrant with an emphasis on lighting. I like incorporating geometric or Native designs in my compositions to compliment the faces and figures I paint."
“I enjoy bringing life to a blank canvas with colors and shapes, and
finding a figure in a chunk of stone.” READ MORE |

Celebrating the One Light that Shines Through All
My work explores the interplay between inner and outer worlds; the seen and the unseen. I delight in the serendipity of watercolor, acrylics, and inks that transform into colorful dynamic imagery. The creative process is a sacred gateway. Across this threshold flows the grace of everyday moments; joyful women and playful children; lively music and exuberant dance; warm embraces and quiet contemplation. Images emerge as a gift and mystical surprise. The ordinary is illuminated.

Sculpture is Tomi's primary art expression. Tomi's background is technical in nature and over the years has turned to the human form. Most of her work is of people with great body language and expression, or an abstract of the same. She is qualified in Forensic Facial Reconstruction and uses the human face and form as the most extensive pallet imaginable.

LIST OF 25 RECOMMENDED ARTISTS FOR 2019.
LIST OF 25 RECOMMENDED ARTISTS FOR 2019.
I started in the arts as early as 1969 as a portrait artist and clay sculpture. I have owned businesses thru the years and have been in many juried fine art and International shows throughout New Mexico, Nevada, Texas, Arizona and California. I am mostly self taught, but also have taken courses with the Columbus art and Design of Ohio and Foothill College in California. While living in another state, I painted the legendry figures of the Old West, capturing the essence of the outlaws, like Billy the Kid, Wyatt Earp, who lived so large in our history. After moving to New Mexico, the history and stories of everyday life, colorful cultures of Native American and Mexican people took hold of my brush. My style of art had finally found the right home.
"Sometimes when a painting is finished
I wonder how I did it, or where it came from."

I’m a self-taught artist from Las Cruces working primarily with oils. Much of my work focuses on the natural beauty, landscape, and culture of southern New Mexico. In 2017 I started using neon oils to superimpose secondary images onto the canvas that can only be viewed under blacklight conditions. This unique ‘vertical drilling’ technique has become a hallmark of my recent work and, as far as I know, I’m the only person currently employing this new style of oil painting.

Rene Sepulveda former NCAA Award winning Track and Field Coach, California/New Mexico regionally renown Rehabilitative Coach turned artist who creates sculptured abstract works. One art critic recently said of his works that they are “incisive meditations of colorishis designs, shapes and composition complimenting natures wonders using lava rocks, tree roots, tree trunks, bark, cholla desert cactus as components of his canvas.”
Artist Rene Sepulveda’s carefully constructed sculptures and art installations are abstract interpretative works that rely heavily on the influence of nature for texture and symmetry, for rural to urban spaces.

"I believe that the artistry of Cholla Art, Tree Trunk Art, Root Art or Lava Rock and Metal works are unique and not well understood, in that most homeowners or business owners don’t have the knowledge of the beauty these pieces can bring to their environment. Most people have not been exposed to these kinds of sculptured works, very few artists create art with these mediums as a canvas. Most people don’t know the sense of Zen or harmony that is created by including these pieces into the home, office, or business environment."

An Australian art critic and others convinced me to pursue art as a professional career, which I began in 2009. Soon after, I was inducted as a Signature Member of the National Watercolor Society and have now been in numerous exhibitions at international, national, state and local levels. In 2019 I was invited to be one of the 20 members of The Border Artists, a prestigious group representing Southern New Mexico and West Texas.
Many of my paintings reflect a key facet of my art, a love affair with the Australian wilderness that dates back to the 1970’s, when I spent a year exploring the entire continent in an old Volkswagen van and spent several months painting there in 2023. I have included a sample of my Southwest USA portfolio of paintings and photography below.
I hope you enjoy an international journey through my art, and if so inspired, add my work to your own collection.
