I appreciate soft, sensual forms that have an interplay of curves and movement. I create with solid wood for its intrinsic value, virility, and rapidity of execution. The grain and beauty of the wood have little influence in the initial design conception. I visualize a new work in matte black and believe that if a piece has a presence draped in black, then the design will carry the heart and soul, and only then the wood’s beauty will manifest the personality." "Nature has always been a significant part of my life, especially leaves and fruits. I grew up in rural Ohio, where we had a small orchard, and from an early age, it was my responsibility to take care of it. I spent my childhood and teenage years pruning, picking, and forever raking. I remember waking up every morning and seeing the pear tree outside my bedroom window. The green hues of the leaves would change depending on the weather, and I found the rustling of the leaves to be one of the most beautiful sounds then and now. Today, leaves, flowers, and fruits play a dominant role in my work. I find them to be not only beautiful but also significant. The leaves, with their varying colors and shapes, represent nature's come-hither glance. The apples, with their bounty, represent new birth. Finally, the flowers are nature's laughter with their colors and fragrances." New Mexico artists are amazing! Discover New Mexico’s Art Treasures & support the people who create them.
