Her pastel pigments fully saturate the entire surface, and are worked and blended in with an almost sculptural quality. Her palette ranges from the richest and most luminous of hues to the most subtle and delicate of shades. Her work invokes a sense of beauty, mystery and wonder that is very much her own. Linda Storm Art Contemporary Artist VISIT ARTIST'S WEBSITE VISIT LINDA'S INSTAGRAM PAGE VIEW LINDA'S FACEBOOK PAGE With paint, precious pigments, and iridescence on canvas I resurrect goddesses from ancient global cultures. My childhood questions about religion inspired me to awaken awareness of the divine feminine with art, and to raise questions about how beliefs affect gender roles, spiritual life, economics, medicinal and sociopolitical practices. After many years of reading myths to my children and my students, I learned that our ancient ancestors believed divine females gave birth to seasons, destroyed demons, saved the innocent, and healed disease. They created art, music, poetry, and dance; and fiercely protected the innocent. Goddesses foresaw the future, grew magical golden apples, arched over earth as a blanket of stars, and offered eternal life. From Buffalo, NY, I moved to New Mexico in 1994, and juggled life as a mother, Montessori teacher, and artist, studying painting with Lee Rommel and Bruce King. I am now an award-winning, internationally recognized artist who collaborates with artists around the globe. I am currently painting curandera goddesses revered for their healing abilities. I have many paintings in storage that I still love but do not feel they would be shown in a gallery again as originally painted. Thus, I pulled many out and made them ‘better,’ bringing them up to date with my newer marks and emotions. Many of the pieces will have differing amounts of the original image showing…pentimento. Some are all new…those are the + in the title of this exhibition. New Mexico artists are amazing! Discover New Mexico’s Art Treasures & support the people who create them. I paint to see what happens– within myself and on the canvas; trusting my experience and being endlessly surprised. Everything is a creative process, an investigation, and in some sense, a healing art. What inspires me is the creative process itself, following my intuition and abandoning expectations. I like to experiment with various styles and mediums but my passion is in abstract expression. I hold BFA in painting and have exhibited my work primarily in Washington, Oregon, California and New Mexico. Currently I am living in Santa Fe, New Mexico. I am also a Doctor of Oriental Medicine, happily practicing Acupuncture to help others be in harmony with themselves and their environment. I hope that my passion for creativity and exploration can be felt in my artwork. New Mexico artists are amazing! Discover New Mexico’s Art Treasures & support the people who create them. Christina Hall-Strauss Acrylic on Canvas VISIT ARTIST'S WEBSITE VISIT CHRISTINA'S INSTAGRAM PAGE FOLLOW CHRISTINA'S FACEBOOK PAGE My artwork explores the rhythms, tensions and harmonies of the natural world, reflecting my sensory perception of patterns, energies, atmospheres and relationships. I invite the viewer to experience with me the interplay of color and movement, form and texture in my interpretations of nature. I work with the idea of above and below, seen and unseen, in my paintings. By multiple layering I create my rendition of this perception. I was born in Tucson, Arizona, and have lived in Santa Fe, New Mexico, since the mid-1970s. The Southwestern landscape permeates my awareness of color and shape. The cycling of the New Mexico seasons, flights of birds, native flora, the Río Grande and other rivers and arroyos, continually visit my paintings. Travel always intensifies my appreciation of the many forms and feelings in the world of nature. Long visits to Brittany/France allowed its rocks, coastal sand and patterns of the sea to become part of my work. Various Asian aesthetics in crafts and painting continue to be a great influence. My chosen medium is acrylic on canvas. I work with negative space by adding and subtracting shapes while building the surface to create an overall glow. ******* New Mexico artists are amazing! My love of quilts shows up in my geometric painting series, which I drafted using a quilt design software. My goal is always to paint honestly, and to channel the joy I feel while painting. I want my paintings to sing to me, which is when I know that I like them enough to have them seen publically. New Mexico artists are amazing! Soon after, I was inducted as a Signature Member of the National Watercolor Society and have now been in numerous exhibitions at international, national, state and local levels. Many of my paintings reflect a key facet of my art, a love affair with the Australian wilderness that dates back to the 1970’s, when I spent a year exploring the entire continent in an old Volkswagen van. I hope you enjoy an international journey through my art, and if so inspired, add my work to your own collection. New Mexico artists are amazing! Dianna Shomaker, Encaustic & Mixed Media Painting VISIT ARTIST'S WEBSITE Visit Dianna's Placitas Studio Tour Dianna Shomaker Artist Statement: Welcome to my art world. I invite you to become acquainted with my work and what it means to me, and further your appreciation for the abstract art that has evolved in tandem with my life. Not all my work is abstract, as is also true of other artists, but I’m basically an intuitive soul. I love a good puzzle. That’s what art is, the unravelling of a puzzle through curiosity, experimentation, and observation. But most importantly to me, it is my intuition that drives what I do. Now why, you may ask, is that of value for you when viewing my art. Where does it fit in with your impressions? Paintings are powerful tools for my ability to convey, to give me a voice for my inner world. That is the key to unraveling my art. It is as close as I can come to communicating meanings that are too nebulous to put into words. I bring to the room a very diverse set of experiences throughout my lifetime and my values are based on that. Decisions weren’t always about art but art has always been a driving force. That is also true for the viewer. We are each wonderfully unique to our background. Treasure that uniqueness. Ultimately, I paint because it beckons me down a pathway of exploration and understanding in this complex world. It is my continuing education. I consider a work successful when abstraction provokes and teases me, and hopefully the viewer, too; when it invites everyone into the unfolding drama on the canvas. Ultimately, I want it to be an enjoyable and enlightening journey for all. New Mexico artists are amazing! Discover New Mexico’s Art Treasures & support the people who create them.
