Penne Mobley Mixed Media Artist VISIT ARTIST'S WEBSITE "I was born in Baton Rouge, LA. I grew up in Shreveport, Louisiana and graduated from LSU-Shreveport. I am now living my dream in Santa Fe, New Mexico A place I have been in love with for over 30 years." "I create because I am compelled to create." "My work often expresses emotion, because it is emotion that attracts me to any piece of art. My pieces have a patina as if they have been touched by many hands and if they could talk they would surely have a story to tell…" ![]() "For a number of years now my focus has been on sculptural pieces. It was not until around 2009 that I started feeling like and knowing in my soul that I was an artist. It was while working on these sculptural pieces that I broke free. I work with polymer clay, paper clay, paper mache and whatever else I might pick up. My pieces are very organic both in appearance and the process that brings them to life. I usually start with very vague ideas, like a face and let the clay become what it wants to become. As with my metal work, these sculptural pieces have a patina as if they have been touched by many hands and originated in another place unknown to us." New Mexico artists are amazing! "I've always been an artist at heart. Living in the southwest United States I have always been intrigued by the lives of the peoples that have lived here before modern man came along. I hail from Farmington, New Mexico and a lot of my artwork is based on the prehistoric designs that I can walk out my back door and find on ancient pottery or as pictographs painted on rocks by the ancient peoples that are no longer here. I'm not just a painter though. I am also a microlithic architectural sculptor, my medium being the ancient sandstone found where I live. I create very detailed sculptures that resemble the ancient cliff dwellings and ruins that are found at world renowned archaeological sites throughout the Southwestern United States. I also do modern themed artwork. I am a self taught artist and have won many awards for my works. I hope you will enjoy my art as as much as I do creating it." Whether I am looking at the grandeur of the landscape, a gemstone, or ink as it is spread across a printing plate, I continually look for ways to incorporate my fascination with these phenomena in my artistic creations. Although I will pursue a single theme in a variety of mediums and styles, these threads are present, regardless of the materials I choose. New Mexico artists are amazing! M A R K L E V I N S T U D I O sculptor and art furniture maker VISIT ARTIST'S WEBSITE Follow Mark's Facebook Page Instagram ARTIST'S STATEMENT: My sculpture and furniture are rooted in the fruit trees, vegetable gardens, and flower gardens of my youth. Pruning, raking, and picking fruit, plus helping my mother plant her vegetable and flower gardens, were part of the seemingly endless chores of my youth. It wasn’t that nature inspired me, but rather that nature was an integral part of my life. It was only natural that my work evolved from those small wonders in the orchard and gardens... ...When I left for art school, I swore I’d never eat another piece of fruit, let alone walk through the grocery store produce section. But as I created work at art school, I gained a new respect for all the chores my parents gave me over the years and eventually got over the fact that my three sisters never had to so much as pick up a rake or pick one lousy apple. I had no deep desire to be an artist; I just liked making things, but my work drove me down a one-way, circuitous, bumpy path to the art world. When I saw Wendell Castle’s Douglas Baker dining table, which flowed downward from the ceiling wall, it was a “come to Jesus moment” for this Jewish kid from Chicago. I ended up studying under Bobby Falwell, a graduate student of Wendell’s, and began my conversion to artist. Mark Levin New Mexico artists are amazing! She has been active with the Pastel Society of New Mexico and Plein Air Painters of New Mexico for many years, having served as President of PAPNM in 2012. The subject of landscape is complex and engages my interest throughout a range of aesthetic and spiritual concerns. In choosing to represent the natural world I seek to evoke a “sense of place” and the evanescent sensations of light and weather. There is active choice involved in observing, selecting, transforming, and often inventing elements of the view that I present. In depicting natural landscape scenes in partnership with abstract pictorial composition, I hope to convey an intense and poetic impression...Nancy Silvia Professional memberships include American Society of Marine Artists, and Signature status in Pastel Society of America, Plein Air Painters of New Mexico, and Distinguished Pastelist in Pastel Society of New Mexico. Nancy has been awarded residency grants at The Ragdale Foundation in Illinois, The Ucross foundation in Wyoming, and has been an Artist in Residence at Acadia National Park in Maine, Aztec Ruins National Monument in New Mexico, Cape Cod National Seashore, and Alaska State Parks in Juneau, AK. I am fully committed to finding the joy of expression in clay as I learn new techniques and delve into the mystery of making. I use low fire and high fire glazes, an electric kiln and am in the process of building a propane kiln and exploring its uses. As a writer and traveler, I have learned to enjoy the nuances of place, people, relationship and interaction with self and other. As a potter, I am learning to enjoy the same energies that exist within myself and bring them into expression. This is a magical journey into unknown territory that I find thrilling as it guides me into an almost meditative energy that speaks of aspects of my being that I have never before encountered. She spent a dozen years in New York, where she founded a graphic design business. In 1993, she returned to New Mexico to pursue sculpture in cast bronze. Her commitment developed into both public and private commissioned works. By 2005, she had completed over 40 projects, including several large-scale sculptures, such as the award-winning Senator Dennis Chavez Memorial at Civic Plaza in Albuquerque, NM. Turning to painting, she developed a unique style and metaphor through close observation of her motifs - flowers, still-life, portraits, and figures. She has participated in several competitions, exhibitions, and galleries in Santa Fe and has exhibited in several museums in the US. Her work is in the collection of the Albuquerque Museum of Art. She has been instrumental in bringing the historic New Mexico Art League back to prominence. She has also served as the State Ambassador for the Portrait Society of America for five years. ![]() "I enjoy the dual aspect of painting: combining a graphic sense of the two-dimensional plane with a three-dimensional illusion. Coming from a graphic design and sculpture background, I enjoy sculpting with paint, leaving the marks and the descriptions of the brushstrokes I am making. I am striving to understand better and communicate to the viewer what I observe: the space and shape of the canvas's surface and the space and form around the object in my painting." Williams, Mixed Media/Collage, Painting VISIT ARTIST'S WEBSITE View P.K.'s Placitas Studio Tour Follow P.K. on: Facebook Instagram Preview Collaboration Catalog: "One + One = One" P.K. Williams, Artist Statement: "The idea behind my work is to create brand new art from leftovers and ideas. The final piece looks nothing like the fragments from which they emerged. This, for me, is very exciting because it is a challenge to marry several oddments to create a pleasing composition which has been unified into a completely new form. This challenge keeps my desire to create fresh and energized. I use “bits and pieces” of stained papers, painted papers and prints to create mixed media collages. I incorporate an assortment of media and methods into my work. Some of my favorite mediums include acrylics, graphite, pastels, ink, watercolor, and epoxy resin. Printmaking, no matter which type, is a method I enjoy integrating into my work. Paper excavation is yet another method I appreciate, and it goes without saying that painting, no matter what the medium, is best loved. Including a variety of mediums and methods adds another dimension to my work, additionally allowing me to add my own personal touches. The result is unique and just a bit mysterious. While I deeply appreciate the technical skill it takes to recreate a representational scene from nature, it is not my personal intention. I am very much inspired by nature and often include an interpretation of various flora and fauna within my art; yet I do not feel the need to reproduce what I see. For me, it is much more satisfying to create something brand new. In doing so I hope to attract the interest of my audience. Once attracted, a variety of details captures their attention and draws them into my work. My hope is that my interpretation allows for people to create their own connections to my work. If I accomplish that, I am successful in my endeavors." New Mexico artists are amazing! Discover New Mexico’s Art Treasures & support the people who create them. Featuring: Placitas Artist, L. Heath [Linda] Fine Art, Fusionism and Southwest Landscape Paintings VISIT ARTIST'S WEBSITE Follow Linda's Facebook Page My greatest joy is to reflect the beauty around me... ![]() Growing up in New Mexico, Heath has always been fascinated by the blending of ancient cultures here. In addition, the future has always beckoned brightly to her through images from NASA’s deep space telescopes. Now, with the next chapter of private space exploration developing rapidly, Heath has been inspired to create a new type of art called “Fusionism” or “Fusionist Art”. Fusionism is a new art movement that blurs the lines among different cultures, fuses old and new painting media, and mixes human versus robotic-generated work. It is a perfect blend of her technical skills with ancient techniques and ideas. I am inspired by ancient native cultures, digital images from NASA's Hubble space telescope, and the opening of Spaceport America in New Mexico. New Mexico artists are amazing!
